Open House and Guided Nature Walks at Kent Bog State Nature Preserve. Saturday, May 16, 2009. 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Naturalist-guided walks at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Self-guided walks available during daylight hours any day.
The public is invited to enjoy a springtime walk around the half-mile boardwalk at Tom S. Cooperrider Kent Bog State Nature Preserve. New tamarack needles and a variety of rejuvenated mosses provide a welcome "dose of green" after a cool, wet spring. Staff of the ODNR Division of Natural Areas and Preserves will lead a walk at 11 a.m. and at 1 p.m. Printed Springtime Trail Guides are available for those unable to come when the naturalist is on duty. The boardwalk is wheelchair accessible and there are six benches along the boardwalk for those who like to sit and let Nature come to them.
Kent Bog is on Meloy Road just south of SR 261 and west of SR 43. Parking is limited, so car-pooling is recommended. PARTA Suburban busses service the Bog every hour on Saturday. For further information call Gordon Vars at 330-677-5008 or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
