This month’s selection is Hidden Figures by Margot Lee Shetterly
During the 1940’s women comprised the human computer staff necessary for aeronautical and aerospace research at Langley Memorial Aeronautical Laboratory. The West Area computers were African American women segregated from their counterparts due to the existing Jim Crow laws. Shetterly tells the story of these women who advanced to engineering and programming positions at NASA and were requested by astronauts for calculating trajectory analysis of the manned space flights.
