First Fire and Ancestor Ceremony

Saturday, May 21 - 6:00 PM

"First Fire" is held during the month of May every year to celebrate the outdoor season at White Barn Healing Arts Center. This event is always accompanied by a ceremony. This year the ceremony will be the Ancestor Ceremony, to honor and to show gratitude and respect to our family members who have come before us.

It is held outdoors in the field near the tipi and medicine wheel. It's a great opportunity to enjoy the spirit of community and to honor our loved ones in our family lineage going back throughout time.

There will be other activities scheduled for the day as well, and these will be posted on our website at

Pre-registration is required.

For guests attending the Ancestor Ceremony, please plan to bring a small dish of food that would in some way  honor your ancestors. Perhaps grandma was known for her chocolate chip cookies, or your dad always enjoyed a favorite pasta dish, or due to the ethnicity of your ancestors, perhaps your family enjoyed strudel, baklava, hot rice, or other family favorites.

These foods will be placed in eco-friendly bowls, and you have an opportunity to honor your loved ones by placing the bowls with your food at the base of a tree in the woods. In this ceremony we are not only honoring our ancestors, but we will be providing nourishment for the animals who live in the woods.

This spirit of togetherness, of community, is a great way to enter our warm weather season. You can visit the rescued animals who reside at White Barn, sit in the tipi, pray in the Medicine Wheel, and take a walk down the Meditation Trail.

Be sure to register a friend to join you so you can share this unique experience!
