Six-Man football will be making a Portage County comeback April 9 at 7 PM at the Brick Chapel, 9001 North Main Street in Windham.
The actual sport disappeared 60 years ago, but memories of the 1940 Windham team, which played for the national championship, will be discussed at the Windham Historical Society by George Belden, son of team member Harold Belden.
Belden has done extensive research on the team and the sport, locating a host of obscure materials, and interviewed both surviving members of that squad, Fred Stanley, former postmaster of Newton Falls, and Bob Goss of Ocklawaha, Florida.
Society meetings are open to all interested visitors.
Belden hopes relatives of other Windham players, or players from the other Portage County teams (Hiram, Edinburg, Charlestown, Mantua Village, Mantua Township, Nelson, Deerfield, Shalersville, Garrettsville) will come to the meeting and share their memories.
Other members of the Windham team were Frank Janacek, Ralph Drumheller, Harold Stanley, Robert Turner, Joe Pinney, George Brauker, Robert Fechter, Conrad Thrasher, William Richardson, Sam Scott, Donald Miller, Arthur Joy and Robert Goss.
